Brave

Brave is the latest animation movie from Pixar and Disney. It is about Princess Merida, the daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. They live in an enchanted Scottish kingdom where Merida is being groomed by the queen to become a proper princess.

Merida is a spunky red-headed tomboy who knows her way around bow and arrow. She is not behaving like a princess should be; she is adventurous and is determined to carve her own path in life. Queen Elinor tried her best to prepare her to become a proper princess and marry her to someone not of Merida’s own choosing.

The kingdom has an age-old tradition of having the princess married to the first-born son of the leaders of the clan in the kingdom – the McIntoshes, the McGuffins, and the Dingwalls. This is an age old tradition in order to sustain the fragile union of the tribes. But Merida wants nothing to do with the arranged marriage.

Merida turned to an eccentric Witch she met in the woods for help. The Witch granted her a wish but the wish turned out to be ill-fated. She wished that the Queen will change but unfortunately her appearance changed and turned into a bear instead of “changing her mind” about arranging a marriage for Merida.

Merida used all her strength and will power to have the spell broken. The spell was broken which also strengthened the relationship between mother and daughter.

Brave is not the best animated movie done by Pixar but enjoyable. The animation is splendid and it has a very good storyline which would appeal not only to teenage girls but also to the whole family.  It has a scary plot but it is a terrific family movie. The Scottish highlands backdrop is surprisingly very effective.

Merida is voiced by Kelly Macdonald, Queen Elinor by Emma Thompson and King Fergus by Billy Connolly.

  6. With the vibrant Scottish adventure Brave, the company sets about solving that political problem by offering a distinctly 21st-century princess — strong and rebellious, swift with a bow and uncompromising in her quest for self-determination. Yet they’ve also solved the problem the Pixar way, which means family comes first, whether it’s the surrogate bonds of Cars and Toy Story or the close-knit units of Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Everything that’s good about Brave — beyond the expected eye candy, anyway — stems from the push and pull between the princess’ ambition and the demands of family tradition. Pixar may specialize in reinventing genres and creating new worlds, but this theme draws from a vast emotional reserve.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who keeps thinking “BraveHeart” when hranieg those accents either. No I just think of everyday 😛 It’s really pretty amazing to see Disney•Pixar do an animated movie of my country. Although it’s quite surreal hranieg all those Scottish accents in one trailer.

and co-directed by Purcell. The film’s voice cast features Kelly Macdonald , Julie Walters , Billy Connolly , Emma Thompson , Kevin McKidd , Craig Ferguson , and Robbie Coltrane . To make the most complex visuals possible, Pixar completely rewrote their animation system for the first time in 25 years.

Love Brave, good animation, good story for girls and their moms.

I didn’t hear that announcement and while I loved Disney moives as a kid (and now, who am I kidding) I think that there are definitely other ideas to pursue. But .my girl loves princess moives. Tangled is a family favorite, even my husband adores it. I think this new movie looks so fun and I like that the girl is younger. I do hope that they don’t throw an adolescent love story in there, it would be nice to do away with the whole most beautiful princess .live happily ever after for a change.

I wish, just once, that guys came out looking bteetr in the Disney movies. I have two little boys, and all the male role models always have to learn a lesson from the girls. Now, I want my boys to grow up respecting girls, but is that what they’re learning? Not in the least. Sigh. Thank god for Handy Manny. Can they make a Manny Movie?

  10. Amina says:

Finally a chick flick animation. Great animation movie too. Loved it.

I think the reason many of us think Braveheart when we hear those acctens (and see tartans & Pictish face paint) is because it is pretty much the only widely-known depiction we have of Scotland. I cannot wait to see this film, this trailer looks fantastic particularly the landscape shots.

Brave is one great movie with good story, outstanding animation and very well edited.

They should make more movies like Brave. Outstanding movie.

Oh man, Disney is using you so bad and you don’t even realize it. Who do you think is lniakeg these photos?I work for another studio and we’d do this all the time. Leak something, get it pulled (to generate buzz), then leak something again. Do a quick Google blog search. There are over 20+ leaked images. That’s not a leak, it’s a flood. The rumor is that Pixar is being proactive with their leaks because of the negative attention Cars 2 is getting. Words like sell out and franchise are being thrown around, since the development of this film has everything to do with helping Disney create a lifestyle brand for young boys, and less to do with story. The film, along with the consumer productions division and theme parks, are all resting heavily on this movie’s success.

  12. Lucrecia says:

Story and animation are so good; I may go and see it again.

I have 3 boys and they LOVE tangled (or, as they call it, the girl with the long hair!) They don’t see it as a girl movie, their faorivute character is the Horse, it just has that Disney appeal and I’m sure this one will too! Mind you, all mine were under 5 when we saw Tangled, I’m sure when they get older there opinions will change! Disney movies, mostly, rock, princesses or not!

    • Eduardo says:

You have to give Disney credit-their more recnet princesses have SPUNK (Mulan, Pocahantas, Tiana, Rapunzel) so we will def be seeing this! Our two year old son loooooves Tangled (and I do too!). I think the true issue with the whole princess-y thing is how ppl take it, and parenting .

  14. Amy says:

Went to see the movie last weekend. It has great story and great animation; the Scottish scenery is really wonderful. Well done.

  15. Emma says:
