Silver Linings Playbook

This is a classic romantic comedy, but a quirky in a good way romantic comedy. It is a quirky movie where virtually most of the characters have some level of craziness.

Bradley Cooper plays Pat. Pat is bipolar and is trying to get back with his wife after he is released from a hospital. He landed in a mental institution for eight months after he caught his wife in the shower having sex with another man; he almost killed the man. He fell apart because of this.

He went to his parents place after getting out and did everything to have his wife back. That’s when he met Tiffany. Jennifer Lawrence plays Tiffany who just lost her husband and she is struggling to find a silver lining just like Pat. Like Pat, Jennifer has history of psychological issues. Pat is drawn to Jennifer and together they were able to resolve their personal issues thru a dance competition.

Robert De Niro plays Pat Sr. who is obsessive-compulsive. He likes to watch football and gambles a lot. He is very superstitious when he watches football; he is banned from the stadium for fighting because of his superstition.

The performances of the main actors and supporting casts are very strong that includes Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Laurence and Robert De Niro. Bradley Coopers acting is superb. This is so far his best acting from any of his films. De Niro is great as well; he still has great acting skills.

Overall, this is a very good film worth watching. It has great story and very well acted. It is clever, creative with original story.

  2. Joan W says:

I think this movie is too overrated. Jennifer Lawrence performance is too way over the top.

  3. James B says:

Smart, good script and great acting highlight this winner of a movie. Nice and very emotional characters. Highly recommended!

  4. Patty says:

DeNiro is really great in this movie, hope he wins an award.

  5. Willy H says:

This is a great date movie. It worked on a lot of levels: relationships, parenting, mental illness, and second chances. It’s not some overly glamorized perfect world – and that’s what makes this movie feel authentic.

  6. Sal says:

Dramatic, funny, and sad. What a brilliant movie. It has so many great elements which makes it a truly great movie. The cast outdo themselves they are so brilliant.

  7. Rick C says:

This is a really enjoyable film and well deserving of all of the nominations.Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are both excellent. But not really sure why Jacki Weaver was nominated as best supporting actress, and De Niro could play that sort of part on his very well. The movie is a warm film about mental illness.

  8. Richard_Dallas says:

This movie is De Niro’s most engrossing performance.

As far as dysfunctional movies, Silver Linings is comparable to it’s genre like Little Miss Sunshine etc. It is very well written and it is a compelling look at mental illness and it’s effect on families and friends.

The film is sweet and quirky at the same time.

  9. Roseane says:

Jennifer Lawrence deserved the Golden Globe best actress award. She can become a major star if she plays her cards very well.

  10. Trisha says:

A quirky small movie I enjoyed it.

  11. Dolly says:

Small film that should win some awards.
