Unbroken is about the life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini and adapted from the book written by Laura Hillenbrand. Unbroken is about Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.
The movie starts with Zamperini’s time in the US Air Force during WWII as a bomber with a mission over the Pacific Ocean where he was shot down and lands him in a prison war camp which is hell on Earth. The movie goes back and forth to his childhood as a juvenile delinquent but turns his life around and becomes a runner competing in the Olympics.
Unbroken is a great biopic material with all the right ingredients from troubled kid, his early triumphs as an athlete, his hardships and eventually redemption. However these ingredients were not fully exploited and there is barely any character development for the main character; his early life as a troubled kid was barely touched.
This is not a bad movie and there are some great scenes but they could have worked more to have a better script. It is easy to follow the plot but it is sometimes too predictable. A lot of war movies have been made and this movie looks like a blend of Chariots of Fire, Empire of the Sun, and Life of Pi (stranded in open sea theme).
There are no major stars in the film and it stars Jack O’Connell as Louis Zamperini and directed by Angelina Jolie.
