San Andreas is a disaster movie where the San Andreas Fault in California unleashes a massive quake as predicted by a scientist from Caltech that is felt from Los Angeles to San Francisco destroying both cities. If you want to see a movie and witness the destruction of both cities, San Andreas delivers the goods.
There are no surprises in this movie. The movie is by the book disaster movie and follows the usual epic-disaster formula. It is full of cliché characters and situations. A first responder helicopter pilot on the brink of losing his wife thru divorce saves both his wife and daughter during the massive quake making the family stick together and saving the marriage.
San Andreas provides campy entertainment but not campy enough by providing great visuals of destruction of Los Angeles and San Francisco; skyscrapers in downtown LA getting destroyed, San Francisco being swamped by a huge tidal wave as a result of the quake.
This is not an Oscar material; it is mindless but good enough to entertain you for two hours. This is your typical epic disaster movie with large scale destruction and solid effects. As a disaster movie, San Andreas is everything you would want it to be.
It stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Chief Ray Gaines, Carla Gugino as Emma Gaines, Paul Giamatti as Lawrence and Alexandra Daddario as Blake Gaines. Directed by Brad Peyton.
