Spotlight is a true story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation that would rock the city and cause a crisis on the Catholic Church one of the world’s oldest and most trusted institutions. When the team of reporters in the Boston Globe called the “Spotlight” delves into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church, their year-long investigation uncovers a decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston’s institutions from the church, government and legal system.
While the movie dealt with the infamous scandals of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and earning the Best Picture in the most recent Oscar awards, in my opinion the movie itself is not great for it to earn the highest honor in the awards. There is nothing great in the writing, acting and technical aspects. It may be a great TV movie but definitely not Oscar worthy.
The movie is packed with dialogues and it does hold the interest of the viewer but it should have been better written as a book but not turned into a movie. It is not a bad movie but it is not a memorable one.
