Now You See Me 2 is the sequel about the magicians Four Horsemen who have won the admiration of the public with their Robin Hood-style shows and spectacles. A year after they outwitted the FBI they are back and this time they are to expose the unethical practices of a tech magnate.
Walter Mabry is a tech prodigy who is interested in stealing a micro chip that has the ability to control any computer in the world. With their vanishing acts, Walter wanted to use the Four Horsemen to steal the micro chip for him. He helped the Four Horsemen “vanish” during a show and has them transported to Macau, China where the micro chip is located.
While the first installment is lighthearted, fun and filled with mysticism, the sequel is somewhat dark with a lot twists and turns but the plot is still easy to follow as it is very well laid out. It is explained how they “vanish” and how they do their tricks.
Overall the movie is as entertaining as the first one although both movies are quite different which made the sequel necessary unlike most sequels. While it lacks certain flair from the first movie, Now You See Me 2 still has plenty of thrilling magical acts with the plot tightly wounded. This is one good heist movie that is not predictable.
It stars Jesse Eisenberg as J. Daniel Atlas, Mark Ruffalo as Dylan Rhodes, Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney, Lizzy Kaplan as Lisa, Daniel Radcliffe as Walter Mabry with Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine in supporting roles. Directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Ed Solomon.
