Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them is a spinoff of the Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling. It is about Newt Scamander, a British magician and author of a book about magic who takes care of magical creatures kept inside a suitcase who accidentally lets them loose in 1926 New York.

The movie is very entertaining with a lot of magnificent and colorful visuals. The menageries of creepy looking creatures are very entertaining and maybe creepy looking but are still lovable. While the visuals are very good, the story itself is nothing to be excited with; it is very simple and nothing complex. The movie is an eye candy which is good if you just want to be entertained without thinking which makes this movie suitable for kids and teenagers.

While the technical aspects of the movie are great like most high budget movies, there is not much in the plot and story. There is no denying it is beautifully done with great magic and great set-designs; the production design and customs of prohibition era New York is very well crafted. There are a few characters that are not well developed; they are in the movie but it is not clear what they are there for or what their motives are. Perhaps this can be dealt with in the next installment.

It is not a bad movie but it not great either; it is technically beautiful and with witty writing, it could have been great if not for so many side characters and side plots. It is basically a Harry Potter movie minus the great characters.

It stars Eddie Redmayne as New Scamander with Colin Farrell as Percival graves, written by JK Rowlings and directed by David Yates II.

Not as great as the Harry Potter movies but still good and worth watching.

  2. linhosmond says:

Not as complex as Harry Potter but still very good. Visual effects are beautiful.

  3. dannychana says:

Simple and straight forward story but the special effects more than made up for the so so story.

  4. This is a light weight compared to the Harry Potter series.

  5. JK Rowling is a master story teller.

  6. Love the fantastic visuals and the way the story is told it is simple and easy to follow.

  7. Pamela S says:

This is one lovely movie, great story telling by JK Rowlings.

  8. Good movie with great production design, story is so so.

  9. Troy Amos says:

Super good movie I loved it.

  10. Robert Ching says:

Glossy and very good productin design and also great story telling but not too much on the plot and character development.

  11. Thin plot and story and very one dimensional characters don’t justify the exceptional production design and special effects, story need to be given emphasis for a movie to be good even great. The exception being Tilda Swinston who acted the the best among the characters although the original story is that to be an older Asian guy.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a wonderful movie and novel by J.K. Rowling’s world of magic. With a rich yet simple plot, with most main character well developed, and many magical creatures, this movie is sure to amaze fans old and new.

Good job by JK Rowlings and sure the next one would be even better.

  13. What a blah movie not a Harry Potter but it wasn’t so bad.

  14. Fantastic Beast is like a huge meal after starving for almost a week, it is a good movie but it is not quite solid and uneven on most parts. Very good special effects and production design.

It is a very good addition to the Harry Potter series of movies. Hope the next installment would be better than this one. The story should be given more emphasis not just special effects.

Very good movie and enjoyed it a lot. Great visuals and has a very interesting link to Harry Potter. All the magic and visuals are excellent loved it.

  16. Liz says:

Good special effects but he movie overall is a bore with no memorable characters. It is a good material for sequels but it lacked a lot to make it a memorable movie. The plot is a mess, it is a long movie of a mess that went nowhere.

  17. I’m not a super big fan of Harry Potter movies but went to see Fantastic Beast anyway just to check it out.

I thought Fantastic Beast is entertaining enough but the plot and story is just not at par with Harry Potter. Most of tyhe characters are not memorable and most have no impact on the story. Most of the beasts are cute and adorable.

  18. Between Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, I go for Fantastic Beast. While Harry Potter is dark and gloomy, Fantastic Beast is cheerful and uplifting although Harry Potter has a better plot and more complex compared to Fantastic Beast which is very simple with no complexity.
